Do you like cars? Here are 5 movies that will drive you nuts!

Since its first public appearance at 1886, cars fascinate people for several reasons. Some people are attracted by the speed, design and power, some are attracted by the engineering and mechanics processes. That being said, it is not too much of a surprise to see movies about cars at the top trends for audiences from all ages.

All this passion for cars can be seen in numbers: thousands and thousands of movie titles cars as stars, be it on car chase movies – as on the “Fast&Furious” – or on stories based on real life events, as on the just released “Ford vs Ferrari”, and of course, movies where the vehicles are as important (or even more important) than the main characters.

Five movies to put the brakes on and watch with your family

There are as many types of car movies as types of cars – from classic to sportive. That’s why we decided to select some movies about cars for those who love vehicles, regardless of the type. Check it out!

1 – Gone in 60 Seconds

Year: 2000

Genre: Action, thriller, drama

This movie surely made some noise when it was released, back in the year 2000. Its casting, with Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie, were to blame for all of that noise. Well, mostly, since the true star was a Shelby GT500 1967 that made many car lovers sigh all around the world.

The plot goes around 50 high-end cars (including the Shelby itself) that the protagonist has too steal in a single night to save his brother. We can also check models from Porsche, Bentley Continental, Aston Martin, Cadillac Eldorado, Chevrolet Camaro and even a Dodge Viper GTS 1998 in the movie! This is surely a must-see movie for those who want to see some powerful engines.

2 – Ford vs Ferrari

Year: 2019

Genre: Thriller, Biography

That’s a movie to make your eyes sparkle! It was not by chance that this movie got two Oscars at 2020: Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. It shows how Ford debuted on automotive competitions, focusing on the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans and with the excellent performance of Matt Damon and Christian Bale as Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles, respectively.

Those two names, Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles, are very well known in the automotive world, since they were responsible for building the famous Ford GT40, a racing car robust enough to end Ferrari’s reign at Le Mans. Everyone who is passionate for mechanics will surely love the movie, especially when the plot goes around those two legends manually customizing and changing the GT40!

3 – Baby Driver

Year: 2017

Genre: Action, Thriller

Car chasing scenes, a flawless soundtrack and a thrilling plot: the recipe for a breathtaking movie. The plot follows the story of a young and talented driver who is a specialist on car getaway.

While our last suggestions featured very special vehicles, Baby Driver focuses on the amazing driving skills of the protagonist, who is capable of handling almost impossible, risky maneuvers on common vehicles.

4 – Rush

Year: 2013

Genre: Action, thriller, biography

This is for the early risers who love watching Formula 1! The hilarious performance of Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl takes us to the glamorous 70s Formula 1, when the rivalry between Niki Lauda and James Hunt was reaching the stars!

The plot follows the daily life of both pilots, who could not be more different: Lauda is centered and self-willed, Hunt is a playboy who lives in a permanent state of celebration. However, when it comes to racing, all those differences are put aside and we can check that in the movie!

5 – Gran Torino

Year: 2008

Genre: Suspense, Drama, Thriller

It should be enough saying that this is one of the best movies from Clint Eastwood to convince anyone to watch Gran Torino. The movie is starred and directed by Clint Eastwood and tells, in a very minimalistic way, the story of a war veteran who spends his life making small repairs at home, specially at his dream car, a Ford Gran Torino 1972.

Everything was well until a Young guy is forced to steal Eastwood’s car. This is when a beautiful journey of self-discovery and friendship begins, all that with the car as a background. It is safe to bet that this movie will stay stamped on the memory of everyone who watches it. And yes, we are all fans of Clint Eastwood here.
