Now that the data from July are also consolidated, there is no doubt that this will be a year of relief for the market — which means new cars for customers!
Leaving forecasts aside, those who are passionate about cars like to know which are the brands, models, and categories behind those positive numbers, right? This is why we prepared a full list of the best-selling cars in Brazil in every category — after all, we also want to know that! Let’s check:
1 – Subcompact models
In the subcompact segment, Fiat Mobi ranks at top of the category, with almost 40,000 units sold during the first seven months of 2023. The latest balances showed that Fiat Mobi fights for leadership with Renault Kwid, which sold over 25,000 units during the same period, and everything indicates that the fight will be fierce until the end of the year.
2 – Compact hatchback models
Chevrolet Onix showed its strength by recovering the leadership in the compact hatchback segment, with 45,000 units sold during the first seven months. However, Volkswagen Polo is not too far on the list, with almost 40,000 units sold until July. Then we have Hyundai HB20 and Fiat Argo, which continue a fierce fight for third place.
3 – Sedan models
Here, once again Chevrolet was in the spotlight of the best-selling cars of the year with Onix Plus — its sedan version, leading the consumers’ preference in the category by far. Over 35,000 units were sold during the first seven months, while Fiat Cronos was in second place, with around 20,000 units sold.
4 – Mid-size sedan models
Toyota Corolla is a real icon in the segment of mid-size sedans, maintaining its leadership for several years. In 2023, there were a little bit more than 20,000 units sold during the first seven months. The new Nissan Sentra, with almost 2,000 units sold, is still the main competitor of the classic Japanese model, but it is still far behind the leader.
5 – Compact SUV models
The competition for leadership in the compact SUVs segment is fierce, but Volkswagen T-Cross leads the way, with 32,000 units sold. Then, we have Hyundai Creta in second place, with a little bit more than 30,000 units sold, and Chevrolet Tracker in third place, with almost 28,000 units sold. It is estimated that these three models will continue at the top of the category, alternating the leadership at different time points until the end of the year.
6 – Mid-size SUV models
Among the mid-size SUVs, Jeep Compass continues in the spotlight, with 30,000 units sold, followed by Toyota Corolla Cross, which sold 20,000 units during the same period. Honda ZR-V is also in dispute, but it shall fight against Toyota since Jeep is the favorite model in the category.
7 – Large SUV models
Another success from Jeep is Commander, an indisputable leader among large SUVs, with over 10,000 units sold. Toyota SW4 is in second place, with 6,000 units sold, and Chevrolet Trailblazer is also on the list, but far away, with only 900 units sold.
8 – Compact utility models
Another highlight among the best-selling cars in Brazil is provided by Fiat, which seems to have hit the spot with its new generation of Strada to attract consumers by offering versatility and performance. An indisputable leader in the Brazilian market, it is the best-selling compact pickup in the country, with over 50,000 units sold.
