Understand the importance of applying the RIO Piston & Ring Kit

The day to day life of an assembly shop or workshop is always very busy. Dealing with budgets, deadlines and the service itself is not an easy task, we know. Therefore, RIO – Riosulense does not stop thinking about you, Expert, and about ways to make your work routine easier.

This is how our Piston & Ring Kit was developed. First, to provide all the practicality you need, with the Orange Quality you and your customers deserve.

Then, also, for you to have all the ease of access to our technical assembly videos of these two components in a single package.

Oh, and in case you still don’t know about our RIO Piston & Ring Kits, we explain a lot about them in this video that you can watch below.

Now that you have been introduced (or reintroduced) to our new product, let’s talk about the importance of its application. But first, it is important to remember what each one of them does. Let’s go?

How Engine Pistons and Rings Work

For starters, it’s essential to talk about it, the piston. It is undoubtedly the most active component of the engine, as it must withstand situations of extreme heat, constant friction and even prolonged inertia.

It works like this: inside the cylinder, the piston goes down and makes room for the air and fuel mixture to enter. Then it goes up, pressing this mixture.

When the pressure reaches its maximum point, the spark plug generates a spark, suddenly increasing the temperature and generating the explosion of the mixture, which pushes the piston down again and forces the movement of all other parts.

The rings, on the other hand, withstand innumerable stresses, pressures and temperatures. They are responsible for controlling the flow of oil in the cylinder walls, ensuring compression in the combustion chamber and conducting part of the heat generated during engine operation.

And while we are talking about them, it is worth remembering that the installation of the rings must be done in the following order: oil ring, scraper ring and compression ring.

In practice, each ring plays a role in the system, so they have different geometries.

IMPORTANT: First of all, remember the main precautions you should take with the maintenance of the piston rings.

Tips for Success in Installing the Piston & Ring Kit

You, mechanical Expert or rectifier, should already know how to install these important components for the engine. But it is always good to bring tips that can add to your experience in this service.

First, have your precision tools, such as the spreader pliers, handy. Begin the process by securing the tips of the rings inside the pliers and only make the necessary movement to pass the ring through the diameter of the piston head.

Avoid trying to fit it with your hands, especially by doing lateral twisting movements. This can break or generate a crack in the part.

Another tip is to analyze the ring clearance closely, especially on the side of the channels. To measure, use the feeler gauge to make sure you are putting on the right ring.

Also be sure to leave a distance of 120 degrees in the positioning of the tips, as the manuals recommend.

It is very important to do the correct application to ensure the proper functioning of the engine piston. Remember, it is necessary that the installation of the RIO Piston & Ring Kit is done with maximum accuracy.

Otherwise, if there is too much space or friction between the rings and the cylinder, oil burning, compression leakage and seizure of the components may occur.
