Camshafts

The camshafts are components formed by a shaft and a series of eccentrics (cam) that have the important function of accurately executing the opening/synchronization of the set of intake and exhaust valves in the combustion chamber.

Benefits of RIO crankshaft rings

Original quality, in accordance with the characteristics of each engine design.

The most demanding machining standards are followed.

Made of gray or nodular cast iron with heat treatments on the cams.

Application of axes

Camshafts are described as:

  • SOHC – Installed in the cylinder head (simple control), common in the Otto cycle and some diesel generations.
  • DOHC – Installed in the cylinder head (double control), common in the Otto cycle and some diesel generations.
  • OHV – Installed in the block, common in diesel line applications.

Did you know?

The perfect functioning and durability of the valve camshaft depends on:

  • bearing alignment;
  • valve train axial clearance;
  • efficient lubrication;
  • matched exchange (control + tappet);
  • using good quality components (rings, bearings, etc.
